Meet the Coaches of the C.H.S. Cross Country Team

Coaches Doug McGough and Rich Dean have been CT natives for the last 30 plus years. Both coaches attended and ran for Connecticut high schools and later went on to run for the Division 1 program at Central Connecticut State University. The two bring knowledge of many different levels of running, and have trained for events from the 200 meter sprint to a full marathon. In addition to running, the coaches have been working as teachers in Cromwell for a combined tenure of 25 years. Their goal is to bring Cromwell Cross Country back to the prominence it once had as a perennial power in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Finally, both coaches would invite everyone to attend all meets scheduled to come and support their town’s athletes as the run their way back to a winning tradition.

Student vs. Teacher 5K Challenge

This race was created by the Cromwell High School Cross Country coaches, Doug McGough and Rich Dean, to give the teachers and students of Cromwell Public Schools, as well as the community, a chance to show their physical skills while promoting healthy physical activity for both adults and kids. All of the proceeds from this race will benefit the Cromwell High School boys and girls cross country teams.

This year's race will go off on June 2, 2012. Online registration will begin on April 1,2012. Please be aware that there will be no parking at the high school on the day of the event. The main parking for the event will be at Edna C. Stevens school with overflow at Woodside Intermediate school.

The WIS Running Club Prepares Tomorrows Runners Today!

Once again Woodside Intermediate School welcomes back the WIS Running Club! With just over 300 runners, Cromwell has begun to bring back the tradition of long distance excellence to the town. During the club students and teachers run together to get in shape and learn what it takes to be a long distance runner. All members of the club log their miles as they work towards completing a full marathon and prepare for the Teacher vs. Student 5K. The event takes place the first Saturday in June on the campus of Cromwell High School. This year we look to have over 500 runners!

CT River Valley Championship

The Cromwell Cross Country Team is planning a regional invitational. The goal of the event is to provide a regional Saturday meet, where none currently exists, on Saturday, September 22, 2012. The course is great for both viewing and running fast times. The course is a 2 loop grass/trail course, with only a 75 foot elevation, and an on track finish. In addition to the course’s user friendly design, it will serve as “Almost” a home meet for most involved, because almost every invited team is within 15 miles of Cromwell. At the event there will be parking on the grounds for busses, and at the two surrounding schools (Edna C Stevens and Woodside) for spectators. We will only accept the first 15 teams, to ensure plenty of space for parking and a smoothly run event. Finally, the winning team will receive a team trophy and the top runners from the girls and boys varsity and JV races will receive a FREE CT RIVER VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIP WICKING SHIRT!
